1. Statement of Purpose:
The purpose of the Christian Family Educational Co-op (CFEC) is to provide home education families an opportunity to enrich their children's academic curriculum and social experience within the context of a Christian-based, co-operative organization.

2. Code of Conduct:
As Christians we strive to emulate Jesus Christ through our conduct. In Matthew 22:36-40, Jesus stated the principles that should guide our relationship with God and with each other. The Apostle Paul, in Galatians 5:22-26, elaborated further how our actions should demonstrate the fruits of the Holy Spirit.

As members of the Christian Family Educational Co-op we want to live by these words and treat each other accordingly. In addition, there are some specific items we need to keep in mind and abide by them. Parents should review these guidelines with their children at the beginning of each semester. The guidelines are:
We need to respect our hosts. This includes:
cleaning up after ourselves, leaving the building in the same or better condition than we found it.
making sure the classrooms and hallways are clean at the end of the day
respecting the property of others (if it is not yours, leave it alone)
no running in the building (unless you are in the gymnasium)
staying off the gymnasium stage and steps unless you have permission
Children are to behave in a respectful manner towards class instructors. If a child will not co-operate in class then that child will spend the remainder of class time with his/her parent.
Children should respect the authority of the parents in the co-op and should heed the instructions of adults.
We should respect each other. No offensive or revealing clothing should be worn and no offensive language should be used.

3. Visitor Policy:
The Christian Family Educational Co-op (CFEC) encourages prospective members to visit us on class days. This provides the prospective member an opportunity to meet the families involved in CFEC and it also provides a chance to observe how the co-op functions on a typical class day. We do ask that you contact us when you plan to visit so that the teachers of the classes you plan to visit may be notified.

We do expect that prospective member families who attend class days more than twice per term will become CFEC members for that term and will fulfill membership obligations for the term, as is appropriate for the member's situation.

4. Member Participation
4.1 How do we define members and participants?
A co-op participant is any child:
who is enrolled in one or more classes,
whose tuition has been paid, and
whose legal guardian is an active member of the co-op.

An active member:
is a legal guardian of participating children,
must be present at co-op, on time, on the days we meet for classes,
meets the expected level of involvement in the co-op (see below).
The co-op reserves the right, on a case-by-case basis, to determine exceptions to a member's attendance requirements.

We are not a 'drop-off' organization for families who want their children participating in co-op activities but are not present and involved in those activities.
    4.2 Expected Member Involvement
Because our group is a co-operative organization we rely heavily on each member's active involvement to make sure that all the necessary tasks for conducting CFEC are completed in a smooth and orderly fashion. The spirit of these policies is one of striving to work together for the benefit of all the families in co-op.

In general, co-op members are expected to abide with co-op policies for:
Timeliness
Fulfilling all obligations
Upholding our Code of Conduct standards
However, recognizing that failure to comply with the expected member participation burdens other members, such failure may, after two notices, result in termination of membership and loss of tuition per Art.VI, Sec. 4 of the by-laws.

        4.2.1 Attendance
We expect each member to be at co-op on class days and to be there, ready to begin the day's activities, promptly according to schedule.

There will be times when members will not be able to attend on a class day. In those situations the following guidelines must be followed:
If you know in advance you will be gone on a specific day, you are personally responsible for making your substitute arrangements in advance and notifying the substitute coordinator of those arrangements.
If you have an emergency situation (sick child, etc.) you are still responsible to arrange for a substitute for your classes and other duties. In these emergency situations, please contact either the substitute coordinator or another co-op leader to give us a heads-up on the situation. When a parent is unable to attend in these situations, children over the age of five may attend if another parent has agreed, in advance, to be responsible.
You may contact the substitute coordinator for assistance only after you have made every effort to secure your own substitutes.

         4.2.2 Instruction
We expect that members who have been involved for more than one term will be willing to teach, or co-teach, a class. This provides a greater selection of classes for our students and helps build relationships between the adults and students.

Each term a number of classes are offered for our children. As a teacher, we expect that the co-op member will
Be prompt - allowing extra time for set-up and clean-up (as necessary).
Have prepared lessons for the class ahead of time and will be available each week to teach that class.
Conduct classes within the budgetary guidelines set by the co-op. Any expenses exceeding these guidelines must be approved before the expenses have been incurred.

If you are an instructor and you know you will not be able to attend on a particular class day it is your responsibility to make sure that a substitute is there to conduct the class for you.

A number of the classes we conduct also require assistants on class days. If you have been assigned as an assistant it is important that you be in the class during the class period. The instructors rely on you and should there be a need to find you we know where to look. Again, if you know ahead of time that you will be unable to attend on a particular day please arrange for a substitute. Also let the instructor know you will be missing and who will be substituting for you.

            4.2.3 Set-up & Clean-up
Each term various set-up and clean-up duties are assigned. Older children should assist in these duties, which include lunch set-up/take-down and end-of-day cleaning. As always, when you will be unable to attend please make sure someone will cover for you.

          4.2.4 Administrative Duties
There are a number of administrative duties that are done for each term. We will provide a list of contacts for these should you need to talk about it or have a question. Those functions include:
Building
Legal
Financial
Instruction
Registration
Communications (web page, Newsletter, etc.)
Operations

          4.2.5 Fundraising
Each member is expected to meet a minimum level for fundraising. This is achieved one of two ways:
The family pays the co-op the buyout amount so the family will not have to try to sell anything.
The family will sell a minimum amount of items so the net amount of what is sold will meet the required minimum fundraising level.

5. Children With Special Needs:
What if my child has special needs? We recognize this is a growing area within the Homeschool environment. However, since our co-op is not structured to handle children with special needs we ask that you please check with us before registering, so we can determine if our current facility restrictions are adequate to meet your child’s needs.
